Just a week ago, he was on top of the world in his category. Puerto Rican boxer Paul Bamba died overnight from Friday to Saturday at the age of 35, his manager, singer Ne-Yo, announced on Instagram.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched so many lives,” reads an Instagram post from the artist. He was a fierce but confident competitor, with a relentless ambition to do great things. More than anything, he was a superb person, who inspired many lives with his exceptional determination. »

Bamba won the WBA Gold belt on December 21 in the cruiserweight category (light heavy, less than 90.7 kg) against Mexican Rogelio Medina Luna, during an event in Carteret, New Jersey. At the end of an impressive year: 14 fights, 14 victories, as many by KO, for a career record which will remain fixed at 19 victories including 18 by KO, for 3 defeats.

After this fight, the new world champion challenged YouTuber converted boxer Jake Paul to a fight in 2025. “Jake talks a lot about his desire to be world champion, so I just tell him that I have something that he wants: a real title, he declared to the media Bloody Elbow. I do things in the world of boxing, to the point of accumulating belts, why doesn't Jake do the same thing? »

The fight will therefore never take place. On X, the social media star, recent winner of Mike Tyson in an exhibition fight, paid tribute to Paul Bamba with a simple message: “RIP Paul Bamba”.
