Olympique de Marseille are exploring various options for the goalkeeper position following the departure of Pau Lopez for Girona. The name of Brice Samba, the brilliant Lens goalkeeper, was mentioned in this quest. The former Marseillais returned to these speculations.
Brice Samba and the hypothesis of a return to Marseille
Brice Samba, a former player trained in Le Havre, had previously joined the ranks of OM. However, he never really had the opportunity to shine in Marseille, helmed by the immovable Steve Mandanda. Today, in Lens, Samba has established himself as one of the most successful goalkeepers in Ligue 1. It is this remarkable career which prompted Olympique de Marseille to consider his return to the club at the following the transfer of Pau Lopez. The player himself has spoken out about these persistent rumors.
No concrete progress
“Certain things were said, like the idea of interest on the part of Marseille. But that's a thing of the past for me now. What interests me is what the future holds for me, especially the next training session. For the rest of the questions, you might need to contact the club. Perhaps they received offers that I was not informed of,” he confided jokingly during an interview with L’Équipe. Finally, the Marseille club seems to have directed its search towards other names such as Geronimo Rulli and De Lange to replace the Spanish goalkeeper. Despite this, it is not unlikely that Marseille officials have tried their luck with Brice Samba, but so far, without success.
