The files are multiplying at the end of 2024 for the government. And that of unemployment could soon find itself at the top of the pile: in November, France Travail recorded 45,000 category A job seekers (those who have no additional activity), an increase of 1.5% compared to the start of the year.
In total, 5.5 million people were unemployed in November, or 7.3% of the workforce. Figures which are worrying and which risk getting worse in 2025. The level of unemployment could reach between 7.6 and 8%, according to economists.
In question, the multiplication of social plans. Nearly 200,000 jobs are at risk according to the CGT, in large groups like Auchan, Valeo or Michelin, but also in smaller companies.
“As businesses close, investment prospects are weaker… All this creates an environment that is not very supportive. This situation will be reflected in the job market,” explains Philippe Waechter, chief economist at Ostrum Asset Management.
RSA beneficiaries soon to be counted
THE various savings avenues in the government's next draft budget do not allow for optimism. Among them, the reduction in learning aid is envisaged. Until now, they have favored employment among young people. “The number of apprentices will slow down and this will also have an effect on the job creation figures, and therefore on the dynamics of the labor market,” continues Philippe Waechter.
More bad news: the number of people registered with France Travail will automatically increase from January. The former Pôle emploi will begin to count the 1.5 million RSA beneficiaries among job seekers.
