In Ukraine, a North Korean soldier who was taken prisoner died from his injuries while fighting alongside Russia. According to kyiv, 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been engaged since last summer in the Russian region of Kursk.
The photo was released this week by Ukrainian special forces. The man on the ground is presented as a North Korean soldier. He is said to have died in combat in Russia. The Ukrainians claim to have found a diary written in Korean on him. There we find combat strategies but also private messages. On one of the translated pages, the soldier speaks about his family remaining in North Korea. The Ukrainian army posted other photos of soldiers purporting to be North Korean.
A military official also posted a video – a mass grave according to him – but the video is impossible to verify. So how many of these soldiers died in Russia? The United States reports several hundred men killed or injured. The Ukrainian president puts forward much higher figures.
North Korean troops are deployed in the Kursk region of Russia. Their goal is to repel the kyiv army.
