Jura: Residents evacuated after an explosion at Faubourg de France in Porrentruy

A fire broke out on Friday shortly after noon in a four-story building located in Faubourg de , one of the oldest districts of Porrentruy (JU). The alarm was raised at 12:30 p.m. by neighbors after hearing an explosion.

“We heard an explosion on the floor below, and the fire spread very quickly,” testifies a father, who lived on the top floor, to “Quotidien Jurassien”.

Firefighters evacuated two residents who had taken refuge on a terrace using a basket. The major operation mobilized several vehicles and dozens of firefighters from the Porrentruy Fire and Rescue Reinforcement Center, as well as the Calabri SIS, who came as reinforcements.

Fighting the flames was complicated by heavy smoke, forcing firefighters to use breathing apparatus. Police forces were also deployed to secure the scene.

One of our readers, on site, indicates: “The Faubourg de France is closed until further notice, which causes traffic complications. Authorities advised residents to avoid the area and close their windows due to the heavy smoke.”
