These data were confirmed during the summary conference on Ho Chi Minh City’s socio-economic development missions in 2024 and action plans for 2025, organized on December 26 by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
In the trade and services sector, the total turnover of retail sales of goods and services in 2024 showed steady growth, estimated at more than 1,206,261 billion VND, an increase of 10.7 %. Retail sales of merchandise increased by 11.0%, accommodation and food services by 9%, travel services by 55%, and other services by 7.6%. The raw materials market situation remained stable, and the movement of goods was smooth.
Stimulate demand
Many shopping malls, supermarkets and retail stores have launched various attractive promotional programs, offering competitive prices and a wide range of discounted products to stimulate demand. Furthermore, the city continued to implement programs to stabilize the raw materials market, aimed at preventing the surge in prices of consumer goods, particularly essential food products.

In terms of exports, the total turnover of the city’s companies via border crossings nationwide in 2024 is estimated at USD 46 billion, an increase of 8.3% compared to 2023. The structure of exported products continues to evolve positively, with a predominance of processed industrial products, which represent 75% of export turnover. The reorientation of export markets is increasing towards countries and territories with which Vietnam has concluded free trade agreements. In addition, the products of the city’s companies are now present in 214 countries and territories.
Speaking numbers
The value of agricultural, forestry and fisheries production in 2024 is estimated at 19,974.8 billion VND, up 0.4% compared to the previous year. In this total, crop production amounts to 5,206.4 billion dong, that of livestock to 7,049.5 billion, and that of aquaculture to 5,988.3 billion.
The area of vegetable crops reached 20,450 hectares, recording a decrease of 6.0% compared to the previous year, with a production of 602,048 tonnes, down 4.0%. Dairy farming has 33,225 cows, a decrease of 10.8%, while the pig herd is 110,158 heads, a decrease of 17.9%. The area dedicated to ornamental fish farming in the city is around 89 hectares, with a production of 120.3 million fish, up 9.4%.
In 2025, the southern megacity will focus on the development of modern industry, the promotion of innovation, and the rapid growth of high value-added service industries, which constitute its main assets. It will focus on strengthening the digital economy and the green economy, as well as the development of modern and sustainable urban agriculture, integrated with agricultural restructuring and the construction of new rural areas. The city also plans to improve the investment environment and strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses.
Furthermore, Ho Chi Minh City will organize and implement planning in line with regional development guidelines, in order to build a sustainable urban economy, resilient to climate change. The city will also strive to promote the construction of modern and synchronous infrastructure to promote regional connectivity. Finally, it will continue to develop effective digital governance, while strengthening digital transformation within businesses and the community.
