During his general policy declaration on December 27, 2024, the Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, announced a major reform in visa management. From now on, Senegal will apply the principle of reciprocity towards countries which impose visas on its nationals.
“We will apply the principle of reciprocity for the issuance of visas to nationals of certain countries which require it from our nationals,” affirmed Mr. Sonko, emphasizing his government’s desire to defend national dignity and promote fair treatment.
This measure aims to balance international relations in terms of mobility and to strengthen Senegal’s sovereignty in the control of migratory flows. By targeting countries where visa restrictions for Senegalese are particularly rigid, the Prime Minister also intends to lay fairer foundations for international trade, while preserving the country’s financial interests.
