A retired couple lost everything in the fire which ravaged their sailboat on December 22 in the Pointe-à-Pitre channel. Richard and his partner, on board when the fire broke out, have the feeling that not everything was done to save the boat on which they lived.

Still stunned, Richard Laville, on the shore, his feet in the water, stares relentlessly at what remains of his sailboat. A few hundred away, a part of a charred ship remains on the surface. This is all that remains of his place of residence.
Last Sunday, a fire broke out on board. The boat quickly burst into flames. The two occupants, Richard, his partner and their dog were, fortunately, recovered by an agent from the harbor office who had brought three fire extinguishers.
If they are safe, the two boaters have lost everything. They spent most of their time in their floating home.
A few days after the disaster, Richard remains bitter. He is convinced that his boat could have been saved and points the finger at the intervention of the firefighters. The retiree believes that they would not have used the right machine for this mission.

However, joint emergency action was initiated from the first moments, assure the firefighters. Alongside the gendarmerie boat, a port tugboat, a pump boat, put out the fire. For Guillaume Leroy, fire brigade colonel and deputy director of the SDIS, “the means were committed as quickly as possible and intervened as quickly as possible“.
