Imagine. Robertyour neighbor, is cutting a board with his jigsaw when, suddenly, he cuts his hand. You arrive, you see blood everywhere. What are you doing ? This scenario is not taken from the next fashionable horror film, but rather a ordinary domestic accident.
Trivial, yes. But could you react? Not sure. However, it was the subject of a first aid training session organized at Le Pin, Wednesday December 18, 2024. The objective: to identify the gestures to know to save without putting themselves in danger.
Necessary training
“Ah well, I’m feeling unwell! », “I’m bandaging him”, “I’m wrapping his wound”… The answers come rushing in to save Robert. To tell the truth, the situation seems simple. In the air, only, because no one really has the right answer. “I unplug the jigsaw, I tell him to do his own compression point, we install it on the ground, and we call 15,” explains Anne-Sophie Desmedtambulance driver, and first aid trainer at AFPS 77.
She will notice it once again throughout the day: as a general rule, we do not know the first aid procedures. “ I want to know the gestures to be comfortable », “I had done training but it was years ago”, “I was confronted with a situation, but I didn’t know how to actand no one around knew what to do”… the testimonies are numerous, but seem to go in the same direction: the unknown.
Even those who took training several years ago need a refresher: without practice, we inevitably forget. “ Training should be done every two yearsbecause gestures evolve, and that does not harm the memory,” confirms Anne-Sophie Desmedt.
It must be said that some have a lot ofa priori on first aid, and in particular defibrillators. However, nothing could be simpler, according to her. She takes it out of its box and turns it on. He speaks! “Place the patch on…”. The instructions are clear, and accompanied by diagrams which are just as clear.
And for those who have followed the training, lasting 7 hours, to the end, a diploma will be awardedallowing them to register on two applications: Sauv lifeet Staying alive. The objective: to identify people likely to save a life by geolocating them, and telling them where they could intervene in the event of a cardiac arrest.
Save, without putting yourself in danger
The interest of these sessions is also tolearn to intervene without putting yourself in danger. Example. “There you have Josiane, your neighbor. You know she’s depressed, and she invited you over for tea. You find her on the ground, two bottles of chemicals opened, and the products having mixed. What are you doing? », asks Anne-Sophie Desmedt. “ I slap her to wake her up », assures one of the participants. “I’ll see if she’s breathing,” tries another.
Lost. “ You would all be dead! “, proclaims the trainer. Yes, no one thought about fumes products, which can be toxic. It was necessary evacuate urgently Josiane, and close the door from the room, and then check that she is still breathing, while dialing the 15. “I had already followed training in 2014, it gives me a reminder », says Morgana. If she remembered several reflexes to have, she admits to having learned things.
Like his comrades who came that morning, who also did not have all these gestures in mind. As proof, when faced with a dramatic car accident, everyone thought of calling for help, but only one thought about securing the areato avoid an accident.
However, all these gestures should be acquired by everyone. “First aid training is OBLIGATORY », recalls the website of the Ministry of National Education. But that’s on paper. In fact, most students have never followed any training. Moreover, a high school student came this Wednesday morning to learn these gestures because, confronted with such a case in her establishment, she saw that no one knew how to react. “It’s rare to have free training, and we rarely have it in companies, so this kind of initiative is necessarily good », recalls Morgane.
