Investigation into death of Swiss diplomat in Iran closed

The investigation into the 2021 death of a Swiss diplomat in Iran has been closed. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPC) confirmed to Keystone-ATS this information published Friday in the Tamedia titles.

The investigation gave “a clear picture” and no “criminal intervention by a third party” could be substantiated, the MPC said on Friday. The investigation was therefore closed at the beginning of November.

The ministry would favor the theory of suicide, according to the newspapers of the Tamedia group. The investigation was, however, complicated by the absence of organs after a first autopsy in Iran, they note.

When experts from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Bern carried out a second examination in Switzerland, the brain, heart, a kidney and parts of the spine were missing. The expert assessments carried out were unable to determine the exact cause of death, but showed no signs of violence. Questioned about these revelations, the OAG indicates that it cannot comment on certain procedural acts.

The fifty-year-old diplomat employed by the Swiss embassy in Iran died in 2021 in Tehran. The national rescue service indicated that she had “fallen from a (residential) tower in Kamranieh”, a district in the north of the capital. She had fallen from the 17th floor of the building where she lived. (sda/ats)

Heavy snowfall has made the snowpack unstable and the avalanche danger remains very high. A snowboarder lost her life in Graubünden and a slide broke out in Crosets (VS). An Air-Glaciers guide and rescuer reminds us of the current danger that reigns off-piste.

Off-piste lovers will have to be patient. According to information from MeteoSwiss, in the Alps and Pre-Alps region, 30 to 60 cm of new snow were measured between Sunday and Monday morning. Tuesday morning, there was talk of almost a meter of snow above 1500 m.
