Beyoncé dazzles NFL at Christmas game

Beyoncé and his daughter’s first concert Blue Ivy were the major attractions of the NFL debut on Netflix. The Baltimore Ravens triumphed with a score of 31-2 against the Houston Texans on Wednesday, while the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers with a score of 29-10, thus securing first place in the American Conference. This is a historic double program which places, for the first time, the American football league on a streaming platform.

However, the focus was not really on the matches, but rather on the performance of the Texan singer. Mother and daughter performed songs from the recently released album, ‘Cowboy Carter’for approximately 13 minutes during halftime at NRG Stadium in Texas.

The singer arrived on stage on horseback, wearing an elegant dress adorned with white feathers and a cowboy hat. His show included renditions of songs like ’16 Carriages’, ‘Black bird’ and ‘Riverdance’, as well as the famous ‘Jolene‘ et ‘American Requiem‘, performed a cappella on a classic car decorated with red roses.

Special collaborations

The show was also enriched by collaborations, notably with Shaboozeywho performed their track ‘Sweet Honey Buckiin’, and Post Malonewho sang ‘Levii’s Jeans’.

The performance took a controversial turn when the singer mimed a gun gesture just as a large sign displaying the word “Bang” unfolded behind her. This gesture contradicts the league’s rules regarding gestures associated with violence.

This event also marked the launch of the NFL on a streaming platform, with a special appearance from Mariah Careywho opened the evening with a rendition of his iconic ‘All I Want for Christmas is You‘.

In short, this first of American football on a streaming platform demonstrates an evolution in the fan experience, combining sport and entertainment in a new way. This raises the question of the future of sporting events: how could these meetings continue to evolve to attract an ever wider audience? An interesting dilemma to discuss, particularly as we approach the major sporting events of the year.
