The Lion King” surpasses “Moana 2” at the box office upon its release

School holiday putsch: Mufasa : The Roi Lionwith 1.2 million entries for its first week, dethrones Vaiana 2 in French cinemas, according to CBO Box Office figures published Thursday December 26. In this race between two animated feature films, however, only one winner: Walt Disney, American giant behind the two films.

Mufasa : The Roi Lionwhich unfolds the genealogy of the famous beast, roars with pleasure and it is another great performance for director Barry Jenkins, at the helm of the project and already an Oscar winner for Moonlightabout the youth of a gay black boy who grows up with a drug addict mother. Vaiana 2now in second position, following the adventures of the Polynesian princess, however continues a good run, approaching 6 million entries for its fourth week.

Another new entrant, Under nutscomedy in a prison environment shaped by the Bougheraba brothers (Segpas on skis) with, in particular, Brahim Bouhlel, mustachioed already seen in the series Validwon 3rd place.

Consequence of these upheavals: A fanfarea story of resilience and brotherhood around music bringing together Benjamin Lavernhe and Pierre Lottin, lost two positions to fall to fourth place.

Conclavea film about an eventful succession in the papacy, remains in fifth place, a great result for an ambitious subject, far from the flagship products of the end-of-year holidays punctuated by comedies or animated films.

4. “En fanfare”: 249,455 admissions on 957 screens (1,309,861 in four weeks)

5. “Conclave”: 144,938 entries on 481 screens (587,389 in three weeks)
