Shots were fired Monday evening in the bar-brasserie Le Lamparo, a well-known establishment in downtown Ajaccio (Southern Corsica). A professional firefighter, Pierre-Louis Giorgi, 33, was killed while six other people were injured. The main suspect, a 43-year-old man, went to the Ajaccio police station on Wednesday where he was taken into custody, the prosecution said on Wednesday.

The suspect “will explain this dramatic evening”
The suspect went to the Ajaccio police station on Wednesday.
“The accused has taken himself prisoner. He will be placed in custody by the judicial police officers, the conduct of hearings and investigations continuing under the authority of an investigating magistrate from the Ajaccio judicial court”detailed the public prosecutor, Nicolas Septe. A search was carried out at the home of the alleged murderer, and his lawyer, Me Philippe Gatti, assured that his client intends to cooperate with investigators: “He will explain this dramatic evening”.

Gilles Simeoni, president of the Corsican community, expressed his pain on social networks: “Aiacciu (Ajaccio in the Corsican language, editor’s note) and Corsica are mourning one of their children, whose life was cut short, and several seriously injured. Administrative closure of Lamparo
Faced with the seriousness of the facts, the prefecture of Corsica-du-Sud ordered the administrative closure of Lamparo for a period of two months. According to a press release, this decision was motivated by
“the repetition of serious criminal acts within a short period of time” et “the significant risk of reiteration”. Last November, the manager of the establishment had already been the victim of an attempted homicide in front of the bar.
The autopsy of Pierre-Louis Giorgi is scheduled for Thursday, December 26. Among the six injured, several remain hospitalized, but none have a life-threatening condition.
