C'ERA UNA VOLTA IN BUTHAN di PAWO CHOYNING DORJI
Con Tandin Wangchuk, Kelsang Choejey, Deki Lhamo, Pema Zengpo Sherpa, Tandin Sonam, Harry Einhorn
BHUTAN, TAIWAN, FRANCE, USA 2023, duration 107 minutes
Kingdom of Bhutan, 2006. Modernization has finally arrived. Bhutan becomes the last country in the world to connect to the Internet and television, and now it's time for the biggest change of all: the transition from monarchy to democracy. To teach people to vote, the authorities organize a mock election, but the locals don't seem convinced. Traveling in rural Bhutan, where religion is more popular than politics, the election supervisor discovers that an elderly Lama is planning a mysterious election day ceremony.
Note di Pawo Dorji of Tea
For both productions of my films, I tried to take what could be seen as a challenge and then turn it into an asset. Since there are no professional actors, I try to choose my actors very early in the pre-production phase, so as to have time to rehearse the scenes with them, but also to be able to learn the different nuances and characteristics of the cast and then implement them into the characters in the script, so that they are more themselves. This helps with the performance and is something that worked wonderfully, for example with the casting of Pem Zam, the child protagonist in Lunana: The Village at the End of the World.
Dorji of Pawo Tea
Pawo Choyning Dorji (director and screenwriter) began his film career under the guidance of director and famous Buddhist Lama Khyentse Norbu. Pawo made his directorial debut in 2019 with Lunana: The Village at the End of the World. The film was selected for the Oscar for Best International Film. Once Upon a Time in Bhutan is Pawo's second feature film as writer, director and producer. Pawo is the youngest recipient of the Royal Order of Bhutan.

THE NEXT ROOM by PEDRO ALMÓDOVAR
Golden Lions in Venice 2024
Ingrid and Martha have been friends for years, and they have never told each other half truths. Ingrid is a successful writer whose latest book tells of her inability to understand and accept death. Martha was a war correspondent and is now suffering from a tumor that could be treatable with an experimental therapy, but in the meantime she has prepared herself for the idea of dying, and has already chosen, if necessary, how to do it: with a pill bought on the dark web. What she would like, however, is not to die alone, and since her relationship with her daughter appears to her to be irreparably compromised, she asks Ingrid to stay in the room next to hers when she decides to “leave the party”.

During the Christmas holidays, the streets and slopes of Cortina are filled with the most diverse characters, gathered among the enchanting snow-capped Ampezzo mountains to have fun, but not only that! Among them, we meet Lucio De Roberti, an irresistible viveur who tries to save his nephew from a disastrous marriage; Dino Doni, a now extinct musical star, looking for redemption and above all the love of his daughter; and Patrizia Giordano, a volcanic record producer struggling with the risk of bankruptcy and a somewhat lazy husband. Together with them, many other characters, each involuntarily linked to the fate of others in hilarious situations, seek their own happy ending.
