Massimi’s direction in Inter-Udinese was substantially sufficient. The national press judged it thus:
GAZZETTA DELL’SPORT 5.5 – Well done to stop the race because of what happened in the corner. He whistles a lot, two yellows are missing. Ghersini convinces him to remove the hasty penalty. In the 23rd minute Ekkelenkamp would be yellow on Darmian, as in the second half (13′) Bastoni on Atta. At 20′ St Augusto and Lucca in a duel: all light, Udinese goes down easily.
SPORT COURIER 6 – Massimi does not direct badly, the referee on whom Rocchi spent energy and resources but who he was never able to convince 100%. However, yesterday evening the match was completed without major cracks or major shocks.
PENALTY, OR NOT
Massimi whistles a penalty (he thinks about it for a while, probably to wait for the action to end rather than a suggestion from the number one assistant, Bresmes) for Kabasele’s touch of the arm on a cross (?) from Arnautovic. The images demonstrate, however, that the Udinese player hits with his right foot, but it is quite close to the body, not high and, above all, inside the “figure”. OFR mandatory and penalty removed.
NO PENALTY IF…
Frattesi protests and asks for a penalty when he goes down into the area, pressed from behind (not even much) by Ekkelenkamp: Massimi indicates that there is nothing, but even if there had been a “fumus boni iuris” to award the penalty and Massimi had he done so, he would have been warned by VAR. In APP, in fact, Bastoni is offside at the moment of Zielinski’s pass.
NO PENALTY
Lucca protests, complaining about a penalty foul by Carlos Augusto: robust, but he doesn’t want to whistle.
ALLSPORT 6 – VAR corrects him on the penalty awarded to Inter after 5 minutes. Then be careful.
