Over the next few hours our region will have to deal with an intense phase of bad weather. At first the factor to take into consideration will be the wind; in fact already from the night and for the whole day of tomorrow, Friday 20 December 2024, winds will blow up to stormy locally, initially from the west and then turning to Mistral from tomorrow afternoon. Intense storms will follow in the most exposed points. Subsequently scattered rains will come from W/Nw involving first the central-western sectors of the region and the north and subsequently also the eastern ones. All this thanks to a low depression that will slide from the upper Tyrrhenian Sea to the center, positioning itself by tomorrow evening in front of the coasts of Campania/Calabria. Colder air will also begin to arrive from here, which, combined with scattered precipitation, will contribute to the return of snow to the mountains of the Sicilian Apennines.
However, this situation will evolve in two phases, because if initially the currents from W will facilitate the vision of flakes up to the 1000/1100m of altitude between Sicani, Madonie, Nebrodi, Peloritani ed Etnasubsequently with the arrival of the Mistral this snow level will undergo a slight rise, stabilizing at around 1300m altitude. Scattered rains coming from the Tyrrhenian Sea will follow, especially in the northern Tyrrhenian sector, especially Messina. An improvement is expected in the second part of Saturday, with temperatures remaining almost stable.
