Favorable precedents, but this time a great match will be needed
Cavese-Benevento, the story of a rough derby like few others, 84 years of competitive and never banal challenges. 39 previous matches, the first dated 21 January 1940 (1-1, Samnite equalizer by Iurillo in injury time), the last one in the first round at Vigorito (2-1, goals by Berra and Pinato): 13 victories for the Giallorossi team, 9 for the eagles, 17 draws.
The last one at the Lamberti is a magic of the old witch: 3-2 thanks to a goal from the French Mounard in the 3rd minute of added time after 90 daring minutes. Story from 17 April 2011. Double lead for the Giallorossi with Clemente and Pintori in the first half (33′ and 38′), equal by Schetter in the second half (24′ and 26′). Finally the “golazo” of the French playmaker with a full neck from 25 meters ended up in the seven of the goal defended by Pasquale Pane.
“Lamberti” prodigal of points in the early seventies: 8 April ’73, Serie D, victory scored by Davide Biasini in the Lamberti marsh, repeat in the following season again in D, 27 January ’74, with a goal from Cianfrone and clashes in final. Fiery climate also on 18 April ’99, C2 series: Benevento victorious with a goal from Totò Bertuccelli against Eziolino Capuano’s Cavese. It was the famous match that ended on “Striscia la notizia” with the final manhunt by the Cavesi and with the infamous umbrella attack on Cisco Guida. For the record, the last two victories coincided with two promotions for the Giallorossi.
Even Gaetano Auteri, in his very personal comparison with the eagles, is ahead: 5 wins, 5 draws, only one defeat (in 2007 at the helm of Gallipoli). In short, the statistics smile on the Giallorossi team. Which this time will not only have to make the cabal count, but go further for a dual objective: to redeem the internal knockout with Giugliano and resume the safe march at the top of the rankings, leaving aside all the “troubles” of this disconcerting Serie C.
