Gisele Pelicot arrives at the Palace of Justice in Avignon on the day of the ruling in the historic rape trial of which her ex-husband is accused, Dominique Pelicotalong with 50 other men. For years, Pelicot drugged his wife, raped her and had her raped by strangers he found online. The prosecutor’s office asked for the maximum sentence for him, 20 years of imprisonment.
The arrival
The victim reached the court in the southern French city of Avignon, which is trying Dominique Pelicot, a 71-year-old pensioner, for repeatedly raping and enlisting dozens of strangers to rape his heavily sedated wife Gisele Pelicot in her own read for a decade. Fifty other men, aged between 26 and 74, are also on trial for alleged involvement in a case that has shocked the France.
The message
The president of the Assemblée Nationale, Yael Braun-Pivetc published a message on X: «Thank you for your courage Gisèle Pelicot. Through her, the voice of many victims is expressed today, shame has changed ground, taboos are broken. From now on, thanks to her, the world is no longer the same.”
