Meyers: Behind the Scenes of ‘Love Doesn’t Take a Vacation’

If the movie Love doesn’t go on holiday is on your list of must-see Christmas movies, that wasn’t really the intention of Meyers. The screenwriter and director recently revealed aboutHollywood Gold podcast: “I never, ever, considered it a Christmas movie.”

“It’s titled Love doesn’t go on holiday because I’m on holiday, but it could have been called that even if it had been set in the summer” he clarified, adding, after seeing it again the day before: “It shocked me a little to see how much Christmas was in the film.” In the romantic comedy they act Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Jack Black e the late Eli Wallach. It tells the story of Amanda, a trailer editor living in Los Angeles, and Iris, a journalist living in Surrey, England. The two decide to swap houses for two weeks at Christmas, hoping to forget the problems of their tormented love lives but end up finding love.

“I never thought it would be a movie to see during the holiday season… I didn’t think so. I really just wanted to tell the story of these two people,” Meyers explained. “I set it at Christmas because that can be a lonely time. As I noticed myself last night, when I saw it again, the characters are all stressed.”

The filmmaker of It’s Complicatednoted that Miles, Black’s character, is “the least” stressed, “they’re all pretty stressed.” “And the holidays seem like a good time to address those issues,” Meyers added. “So it was that and not ‘Hey, I think I’m making a movie about the Christmas holidays.’ Not at all.” Despite the intentions of the director of Anything can happen, Love doesn’t go on holiday it has nevertheless achieved the status of a Christmas classic.
