No surprises

The twilight conclusion to the season of Sergio Perez it made the Mexican driver’s position indefensible also for Christian Horner, who had been the Mexican’s staunchest supporter at the time of the renewal, which arrived just six months ago.

A contract extension that had surprised many, also due to its two-year duration. But, particularly in the Red Bull world, agreements have many escape routes and the collapse of results of Perez had made him increasingly in the balance. The experienced Mexican driver withstood the gusts of wind during the summer break, but by 2025 it is increasingly likely that he will have to hand over his steering wheel in the team to Liam Lawson.

Announcement coming soon

As explained by Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko, news on the matter will arrive this week. Julien Febreau by Canal+ this morning he revealed: “We can confirm the news that Sergio Perez will no longer drive for the Red Bull team next year. The decision has been made and will be announced by the end of the week. His replacement will be Liam Lawson and that means an open seat in Racing Bulls and Isaac Hadjar is in the running.”

23 years old on February 11th, Liam Lawson is therefore about to slip into the very uncomfortable Red Bull seat next to a phenomenon like Max Verstappen, with a very limited experience of just 11 grands prix in Formula 1 between 2023 and 2024.
