Caluire says yes to his new cinema project with Christian Carion

During his first municipal council meeting since the end of June, Caluire said yes, Monday evening, to the project for a new private cinema in the town. Led by the company Les Ecrans Associés, which includes Caluirard producer-director Christian Carion (Merry Christmas, the Farewell Affair), the project provides for five rooms and 750 seats on the Montessuy side in place of the social center. The municipality will provide the land for a fee based on turnover. An investment subsidy from the municipality and the Region will also supplement a project estimated at 5.6 million euros of investment for its supporters.

And the Meliès?

A second cinema on the horizon therefore in Caluire with, after the closure of the Ciné-Caluire, and alongside the Meliès and its 600 arthouse screenings per year. Could a competing project threaten the sustainability of Meliès? Come Tollet, the first deputy in charge of the session in the absence of Philippe Cochet, was reassuringly upset. “These are very different projects and Christian Carion met Meliès on several occasions. And the City will of course continue to support arthouse cinema.”
