Unsurprisingly, Ademola Lookman was named best African player of the year 2024, taking over from his compatriot Victor Osimhen. It was this Monday in Marrakech for the CAF awards.
Ademola Lookman had an impressive season, playing 45 matches in which he scored 17 goals and provided 9 assists. His team finished 4th in Serie A, reached the Italian Cup final and he shone in the Europa League, scoring a hat-trick in his team’s victory and being named man of the match. In addition, he was a finalist in the CAN 2023 and appeared in the typical team of the competition.
This season, Gian player Piero Gasperini continues to display his talent with 11 goals and 5 assists in just 19 games. Ademola Lookman thus becomes the 6th Nigerian player to receive this distinction, joining legends such as Rashidi Yekini (1993), Emmanuel Amunike (1994), Victor Ikpeba (1997), Nwankwo Kanu (1996, 1999) and Victor Osimhen (2023).
