French skier Steven Amiez achieved the best time in the first round of the slalom in Val d’Isère on Sunday, where he can claim his first podium in the Ski World Cup at the start of the afternoon.
Starting with bib 10, in the snow, Amiez finished in 47 sec 44, or 32 hundredths of a second ahead of the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen and 66 hundredths ahead of the Austrian Manuel Feller.
“It’s cool to cross the finish line”
“It’s cool to cross the finish line and see green light up, hear the public screaming,” reacted Amiez, 26 years old. “I’m going to try to do the same in the second round, I’ve already been in this position in lower level races so I don’t see why it would change anything, it’s still a track with snow and stakes, so we will have to do the same.”
Since the start of the season, Steven Amiez, son of Olympic slalom vice-champion Sébastien Amiez (2002), has confirmed his rise in power already seen last winter. He finished 6th in the first slalom of the winter in Levi (Finland) before taking 4th place in Gurgl (Austria) last month. The second round can be followed from 1:00 p.m.
