This Monday, December 16, in Marrakech, the CAF Awards ceremony will honor many players in African football and in particular designate the African Ballon d’Or. Five players are finalists for this prestigious title: Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, PSG), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea, Stuttgart/Dortmund), Ademola Lookman (Nigeria, Atalanta), Ronwen Williams (South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns) and Simon Adingra (Côte d’Ivoire, Brighton).
Hakimi African Ballon d’Or?
However, a few days before the ceremony, a capital leak may have taken place. As Afrik Foot explains, on Al Ahly TV, a journalist announced that the Moroccan Achraf Hakimi should be the big winner for the African Player of the Year award. Other likely results include Ivory Coast, crowned National Team of the Year after their victory at CAN 2023, and Ronwen Williams, who should be voted Goalkeeper of the Year, ahead of André Onana and Yahia Fofana. As for the Club and Interclub Player of the Year awards, Al Ahly and Hussein El Shahat (club winger) would be the winners.
Finally, the Young Player of the Year award remains uncertain, being disputed between the Ivorians Karim Konaté and Oumar Diakité, as well as the Senegalese Lamine Camara. This leak of results could remove a little suspense before the official ceremony of the CAF Awards 2024, scheduled for Monday at the Movenpick Palais des Congrès.
