It’s official, the French have a new prime minister. After the censorship of Michel Barnier’s government, the head of state was forced to make a radical decision. Thus, it is François Bayrou who was officially appointed this Friday, December 13. He must form a government quickly in order to adopt the 2025 budget and manage a National Assembly without a majority. Concerning his salary, it is based on several criteria, which Closer invites you to discover. As indicated Marie France his remuneration is governed by decrees and includes several elements.
The gross monthly salary is set at 12,457 euros. To this must be added a residence allowance of 373 euros (3% of gross salary) and a function allowance of 3,207 euros (25% of the sum of the two previous amounts). This gives a total of 16,038 euros gross per month. A large sum but which is not the only thing François Bayrou has at his disposal. His status also allows him to have access to certain advantages, notably company residences.
François Bayrou: a significant salary and benefits
Upon taking office, François Bayrou also owned a country house in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. He also becomes the new tenant of the Hôtel de Matignon, official accommodation located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, where his office is located.
The new Prime Minister benefits from a second home, the Château de Souzy-la-Briche, nestled in Essonne and from full coverage of the costs linked to the exercise of his functions. Among them, official trips or receptions.
To fulfill his numerous tasks, François Bayrou has an annual limit of 150,000 euros. Even after his mandate, the latter will be able to benefit from certain advantages. He will in fact have a company car with driver but also police protection provided by the national police. Although the Prime Minister’s remuneration may seem very high, it remains below the standards of certain European countries. The media explains that the German chancellor earns nearly 25,000 euros gross monthly, while the Belgian Prime Minister receives 20,800 euros. François Bayrou’s salary represents approximately four times the average salary.
François Bayrou: “reconciliation is necessary”
Officially the new prime minister, François Bayrou makes his first statement a few minutes later. “I think everyone realizes the difficulty of the task, and I think everyone says to themselves that there is a way to find to bring people together instead of dividing them,” he said before adding: “Reconciliation is necessary” . But will he succeed? The appointment of François Bayrou caused a reaction from other political parties and while some congratulated him, others openly declared their intention to monitor his decisions. Mathilde Panot even affirmed that her party would vote in the National Assembly to censure François Bayrou, in accordance with what LFI had promised in the event of the appointment of a Prime Minister not from the New Popular Front.
