Born in the commune of Bordères (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) on May 25, 1951, François Bayrou spent a large part of his life in his native region. He is the son of Jean Calixte Bayrou, agriculture and mayor of Bordères, and Emma Jeanne Eugénie née Sarthou, originally from the town of Serres-Morlaàs, also located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Before entering politics, he studied classics and became a teacher. He also supported his mother in the family business after the death of his father in 1974.
During his life and political career, François Bayrou often demonstrated his attachment to his native region. For example, the president of the Democratic Movement (MoDem) regularly campaigns for the preservation of regional languages, he who speaks Béarnese fluently.

Where is François Bayrou’s house?
According to The house newspaperFrançois Bayrou still enjoys his native region, even if he could soon occupy the Hôtel de Matignon. Mayor of the city of Pau since April 2014, it is however not in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques prefecture that he lives. In fact, he lives about twenty kilometers from the town hall, and preferred to stay in his native village of Bordères.

Since childhood, François Bayrou has had a true passion for horses. “When my mother married my father in the 1950s there were around ten horses at home and I was deeply affected by them. It always served as a path to my dreams”he detailed. “There is nothing more beautiful than a horse, in my life I have never seen anything so beautiful. This back line, its neck, its action, a foal that has just been born”added the president of MoDem.
