The roof of the building is on fire.
The current intervention mobilizes 80 firefighters.
The firefighters intervened quickly. A fire broke out this Wednesday, December 11 on the roof of the Saints-François church in Montpellier. The alert was raised at 9:30 a.m. as flames and black smoke began to escape from the iron roof of the building.
According to initial findings from the Hérault Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis), contacted by the TF1/LCI editorial team, the incident is linked to waterproofing work. 80 firefighters are on site to put out the flames and secure the area.
No casualties
The burning metal cladding and insulating foam underneath make this operation complicated because it requires stripping the very steep roof of the building, designed in a modern style.
No casualties have been reported and the damage remains minor for the moment, with only the roof being damaged. The works of art in the church were removed during the operation.
