Apple has deployed the first firmware update for the Beats Pill, its portable Bluetooth speaker launched in June 2024. The new firmware has the build number 2C336, replacing the initial version 2C289 with which the speaker was marketed. When connected to an iPhone or Mac, users will see version 2.2 displayed in the Settings app.
What's new?
As usual, Apple has not communicated details on the changes or improvements brought by this firmware update for Beats products. The same goes for AirPods, with some exceptions.
Introducing the Beats Pill
The Beats Pill was launched earlier this year, after production of the Beats Pill+ ceased in 2022. Priced at €169 (except on promotion), the new model is distinguished by:
- An improved audio system for better sound quality
- A removable wrist strap for easy transport
- USB-C and Bluetooth connectivity
- IP67 water and dust resistance
- 24 hour battery life
The Beats Pill is compatible with Find My Device and Find My Device, making it functional with both Apple and Android devices.
How to update firmware?
On iPhone, iPad or Mac, the firmware update is done automatically over the air (OTA) when the Beats Pill is charging and within Bluetooth range of an Apple device connected to Wi-Fi.
On Android, it's a bit more complicated since users must download the Beats app for Android and plug their device into a power outlet to initiate the firmware update.
Even if nothing new has been announced, it is better to update your speaker to take advantage of bug and security fixes.
