This Saturday, December 7, early in the afternoon, a fatal accident took place in Avignon, in Vaucluse. According to information from France Bleu, a 43-year-old man was hit by a trainaround 1 p.m., chemin de Rochegude, between Avignon station and the Courtine area. The incident quickly mobilized emergency services.
Despite the rapid intervention of eight firefighters, the victim could not be saved. It was declared died on site. The driver of the train, a TER heading to Marseille, and his trainee, deeply shocked by the event, were taken care of by medical teams.
The train, carrying around a hundred passengers, was able leave about three hours laterafter the traffic interruption. No other passengers were injured in this tragic accident.
An accident that raises questions
Although the precise circumstances of the incident remain unclear. Local authorities are investigating to determine the causes of this tragedy.
The gendarmes and the SNCF will now have to clarify the circumstances of this incident.
