A synagogue was set on fire this Friday, December 6, 2024, early in the morning, in a district of the city of Melbourne, in the south of Australia. Two minor injuries were reported, emergency services indicated.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese denounced a attack and ensured a zero tolerance for anti-Semitism .

“Deliberate and targeted action”

The fire broke out early Friday morning, around 4:10 a.m., Victoria State Police said. According to Benjamin Klein, a member of the synagogue's board of directors, a few worshipers were inside praying when the fire broke out.

Knocks were heard on a door and liquid was thrown inside before being ignited says Benjamin Klein.

In a press briefing held in the morning, the police confirmed the suspicion of a fire voluntary . It was a deliberate and targeted action indicates a representative of the brigade dedicated to arson and explosives.
