Since September, residents of Kherson, Ukraine, have lived in fear. Russian drones began targeting civilians, both on foot and in their vehicles. Meet Ernest Safonov, a taxi driver who tries to survive using a drone detector.
On the streets of Kherson, Ukraine, taxi driver Ernest Safonov got into the habit of driving at more than 100 km/h. “The faster you drive, the more likely you are to survive.”he confides at the wheel of his vehicle. Russian troops are about fifteen kilometers on the other side of the river. In recent months, they have increased drone attacks against civilians. So much so that Ernest equipped himself with a drone detector.
“It detects all waves in the air over about 10 kilometers”explains the driver, who says he has “installed this system when they started their massive drone attacks, starting September 25”. Ernest picked up one of these Russian drones. These machines cost barely 500 euros each. “It’s a safari against the Ukrainian people”denounces the taxi. Attacks on a scooter, on cars, and even on a bus have been filmed in Kherson in recent weeks.
For three months, Russian soldiers are no longer content with attacking military targets, they are targeting everything that moves.
