Outgoing Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad said during a press conference on Wednesday that at least 4,047 people have been killed and 16,593 injured in Lebanon since October 8, 2023 following Israeli attacks.
According to Dr. Abiad, the last two months of the war between Hezbollah and Israel were the deadliest: 3,402 people were killed and 14,655 people injured after September 15, 2024. Among the victims were 790 women and 316 children. Firas Abiad indicated that this toll is likely to rise, with some cases of death still not having been reported to the ministry.
Seven hospitals still out of service
The minister also reported 67 attacks on hospitals and said that currently seven hospitals remain closed due to the war. These are the Bint Jbeil government hospital and those of Bahmane, Salah Ghandour, Meis al-Jabal, Bourj, Marjeyoun and Mourtada. He added that medical associations have faced numerous Israeli attacks, bearing “a heavy burden during the Israeli aggression against Lebanon.” According to him, these associations suffered 280 attacks, which left 206 dead and 257 injured.
