The price of tolls in France will increase again. The government says, however, that this increase will be slight.
If you regularly pass by a tollyou will experience, like every year, an increase in prices. Here is the forecasts of the government.
A much lower increase than in previous years
From several yearsthe price of tolls increases systematically February 1st. In 2025, the situation will be similar. However, the government wants “to reassure” the French: the increase will only be very light.
The government therefore announced an increase in 0,92 % for 2025 on toll prices in France. When we compare this increase to previous years, the difference is blatant.
Indeed, in 2024, toll prices will increase by 3% when in 2023 the increase was much more violent with: 4,75 % increase. Faced with this observation, the government welcomes the increase in prices tolls is lower than expected.
Note that it will be even weaker than natural inflation which is, according to the Banque de France, currently 1.5%. In fact, it is still too early to know the detail the repercussions this will have on the bank account motorists. For that, you will have to wait a little longer. Especially since the government risks changing from here February 1st.
A short-lived joy?
If this increase is rather slight, it perhaps hides other increases future. For what ? Because the Transport Regulatory Authority affirmed that major works of renovation must be carried out very soon.
In fact, the contracts of the highway management companies end between 2031 and 2036. The companies must therefore keep the infrastructure in good condition until the end of the contracts.
However, this is currently not the case. According to estimates, if companies want to meet the demands of the next decade, they must spend 10 billion euros under construction.
Obviously, the overall cost of this work will be reflected in the amount tolls and therefore on wallets motorists. It is complicated to know l’impact exact of this work in the coming years but one thing is certain: the prices will increase much more sharply than in 2025. Fortunately, there are some tips for reduce the invoice at the end of the month.
