Two dentists were indicted this Monday after the death of a patient following an operation in a practice in the Arcachon basin (Gironde) in July 2023.

Failure to assist a person in danger and involuntary manslaughter. Following an investigation by the Arcachon research brigade (Gironde) following the death of a patient, a dentist was “charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to assist a person in danger”. He was placed “under judicial supervision with a ban on leaving French national territory and a ban on practicing the profession of dental surgeon”.

According to the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office, a second “dentist and their dental assistant” were also indicted on the same grounds. One of the two practitioners is a British citizen living in Paris, “banned for life in England for having prescribed expensive treatments without medical reason.”

The victim, a 68-year-old mother, enjoying her retirement in Guadeloupe, had “come to see her children and try to sort out her dental problems”. Operated on 3 July, she died the following day at the Pellegrin University Hospital in Bordeaux, after suffering a “cardio-respiratory arrest” while undergoing “new implants”.

Contacted by the victim’s children, who filed a “complaint against X for involuntary manslaughter” on November 20, 2023, placing a “direct link” to her death “with medical and dental care”, the Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation on June 6.
