The “coffee container” snack caught fire on Tuesday, December 3. The firefighters were alerted around midnight and they managed to bring the fire under control. An investigation has been opened.
It was a place well known to northerners. The “Container café” snack bar, located between Koné and Pouembo, was completely destroyed by the flames. During the night from Monday to Tuesday, around 12:20 a.m., the Koné firefighters were called for an intervention concerning a bush fire in the Baco industrial zone. Once there, they notice that a fire is actually hitting a container converted into a restaurant. Its surface area is approximately 40 square meters. Next to it, another storage container is also on fire.
Additional resources were quickly deployed to try to control the flames. Thus, six civil security firefighters join the three firefighters of the municipality. Reinforcements which will allow the fire to be contained in less than an hour. No injuries were reported.
“We do not yet know the origin of this fire.” explains Commander Loquet from the Koné barracks. “But the flames appear to have started from inside the main container, where the restaurant's kitchen was located. The economic tool is badly damaged. The damage is very significant” he concludes. A sudden stop for the managers who had been trying to sell their business for several months. If on-site catering was at a standstill, the production and delivery of takeaway meals continued until 'see you this Monday.
An investigation was opened by the Nouméa public prosecutor's office.
