Self-employed people worked on average 422 hours more than employees in 2023, according to a Dares study.
Freelancers don't count their hours! This is what emerges from a survey by Dares, the statistical institute of the Ministry of Labor published at the end of October.
In fact, these professionals worked an average of 1,971 hours in 2023, or 422 hours more than employees. Thus, self-employed people count more days worked in the year since they take less leave and sick leave. At the top of the list, it is unsurprisingly in the food professions and agriculture that professionals work the most hours.
However, Dares has noted a reduction in the gaps between employees and self-employed workers over the past fifteen years as a result of a significant reduction in the latter's working hours. In 2003, the working hours of these professionals reached 2,453 hours! According to this study, “the development of the status of micro-entrepreneur contributes” to this phenomenon. In the recent period, the self-employed have not regained the number of hours they worked before the health crisis, unlike employees.
