The four left-wing groups have announced that they will present a motion of censure. “If this minority government is not censored now it will continue to impose its austerity policy by once again using 49.3 on the end-of-management finance bill for 2024 and on the finance bill for 2025,” write in the text of the motion the rebellious group presidents Mathilde Panot, socialist Boris Vallaud, Ecologist and socialist Cyrielle Chatelan, Democratic Left and Republican André Chassaigne.
The text was signed by 185 left-wing deputies. He draws up a harsh assessment of Emmanuel Macron's seven years in power, marked in particular by “the reduction of more than 62 billion euros per year in State revenue (…) for the benefit of very large companies and the wealthiest taxpayers”, and by an increase in social plans which could result in the elimination of 150,000 jobs in 2025.
The motion also denounces the sacrifices demanded of French people in the draft Social Security budget: “taxation of retirees through the partial and deferred deindexation of retirement pensions, taxation of patients through the increase in the remainder payable for care, taxation of apprentices, taxation of the health system through 600 million euros of additional budget cuts”. The left-wing deputies also regret the dogmatism of the common base deputies who reduced to “skin of sorrow” the reform of exemptions from social contributions initiated by the Barnier government.
The deputies recall that their amendments had made it possible to find 17 billion euros in additional revenue but that they were not taken up by the government.
Finally, the left recalls that “the use of article 49, paragraph 3 of the Constitution is the result of Emmanuel Macron's choice to appoint a prime minister who has very little support in the hemicycle and in the country and who does not seek to to maintain itself, beyond its divisions, only by seeking a now clear agreement with the National Rally”.
The left's motion of censure should be examined on Wednesday in the National Assembly.
