About the Franco-Algerian Maurice Audin Prize
CODHOS salutes the two winners of the 2024 Audin Prize:
– They make ZELACILecturer, Echahid Hamma Lakhdar University – EL-Oued (Algeria)
– Léon-Matar TINELecturer, Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University
This prize intended for two young mathematicians, one Algerian, the other French, recalls the memory of Maurice Audin, doctoral student in mathematics in Algiers, activist for the independence of Algeria, arrested by French soldiers in 1957, tortured then murdered. This prize is an opportunity to highlight the universality of the language of science, and the need for its exercise in a climate of freedom.
The free exercise of research, intellectual creation, freedom of opinion and expression, are at the heart of the action of CODHOS of the Academy of Sciences. The arrest of a writer, Mr. Boualem Sansal, also contravenes these principles and we call on the Algerian authorities for his immediate release.
