The SJO wins a “sad” derby

There was no need to arrive late during this derby on Saturday between Saint-Juéry and Saint-Sulpice. After only a minute of play, the Saint-Juériens opened the scoring. On a low cross, Eliet thought he was Lilian Thuram on the evening of a World Cup semi-final, and tackled the ball to propel it into the back of the goal (1-0). Inspired by this first express achievement, Mickaël Bertrand's players would try to quickly double the stakes and rushed towards Chapellier's cage. But they struggled to appear dangerous at first.

They would then offer breaches to visitors. In quick succession, the spectators at the Albaret stadium held their breath over Saint-Sulpician attacks after half an hour of play. But these attempts did not worry Frede, like Embonba's recovery, easily captured by the opposing goalkeeper. Just before half-time, the SJO was going to put Chapellier to work, but Jourde's recovery and Eliet's acrobatic return were stopped by the opposing goalkeeper, who allowed his teammates to maintain the hope of returning to the mark in this derby.

Blatant lack of realism

Returning from the locker room, Saint-Sulpice threw itself onto the front of the attack. The USSS players felt it, they had a card to play in this derby. They multiplied their attempts but lacked precision in the last gesture to the great misfortune of their coach, Charef Chaouch. We think in particular of Henider's recovery in the 70th minute of play. Alone against Frede, the Saint-Sulpicien took a cross to the far post, but he completely unscrewed his shot which flew away.

If they didn't do well, the visitors would never be able to get back on track and their unbeaten streak was finally ended after six games without defeat. “We put a new system of play in place. We disrupted them but we didn’t manage to finish our shots,” regretted Charef Chaouch, the USSS coach. On the Saint-Juéry side, we will be satisfied with this victory by a narrow head in this “sad match” estimated Mickaël Bertrand. But these three points allow the SJO to remain firmly anchored on the podium and to follow the two leaders, Marssac and its runner-up Cahors in this fight at the top, in order to keep the possibility of being ambitious at the start of 2025.
