potential fortune – For more than a decade, a resident of Béthune, in Pas-de-, has been trying to authenticate a work that he claims to be by Pablo Picasso and which could earn him a small fortune

It's not given to everyone to have a Picasso in their living room. And yet, a resident of Béthune, in Pas-de-Calais, potentially owns a work by the artist. Except that it’s all in the “potentially” precisely. Despite relentless research work, despite expert opinions in his favor, the man we will call Jérémy* never managed to have his treasure authenticated by the Picasso administration, the only organization authorized to say whether or not a work is from the hand of the master.

Jérémy prefers to remain anonymous to protect himself from possible thieves. Because it may well be a Picasso worth 200,000 euros that he has carefully kept at home since he inherited it from his great-uncle, more than twenty-five years ago. The drawing in question represents the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, in profile, sketched in black ink and in a caricature manner. And although it does not bear Picasso's signature, the drawing strangely resembles another portrait of the musician, dated 1920 and recognized as being by the hand of the painter.
