OKA – The work of the artisans of Our Earth was rewarded twice rather than once by the Association of Agri-Food Communicators and Editors (ACRA), on November 28, in Oka, during the Moïse-Cossette Awards ceremony.
Patricia Blackburn and Myriam Laplante El Haïli won the Marc-Alain-Soucy Favorite Prize for their file The reality of farm pregnanciespublished in July 2024. The jury highlighted the uniqueness of this file touching on several issues. “Beyond the birth rate, we deal with health and safety at work, succession in agriculture, labor, risks related to pesticides and medicines. And we insist on the responsibility of managers to minimize the risks related to pregnancy with strong phrases,” mentioned France Beaudoin, administrator of ACRA, while presenting the prize.
In the short news category, journalist Sophie Lachapelle won with the article Pawpaw: a “tropical fruit” that triggers passionspublished in July 2023. The members of the jury appreciated the freshness of the text (and the fruit), as well as the variety of speakers interviewed, thus introducing something new to the general public. Having completed his one-year term at Earth (maternity leave replacement), Sophie is now deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine News.
In the long news category, the article Organic vegetable farms: the last chance modelsigned by Julie Francoeur in the magazine Caribouwas crowned winner.
In the Files and series category, the winner is Nicolas Mesly with What will the 2023-2028 Farm Bill look like? published in Cooperator.
Finally, in the Portraits category, Martin Archambault won with A pioneer who blazed the trailpublished in Quebec pork.
This year, the jury was made up of Simon Guertin, Hélène Laurendeau, Hélène Raymond, Pierre Sormany and Pascal Thériault.
