Several outbreaks of arson at Normandy college

Firefighters had to deal with several fire outbreaks during the night of November 29 to 30 within the college grounds. The establishment will keep its doors closed on Monday, in order to carry out security work.

It was shortly after two in the morning that the Nouméa firefighters were alerted. Arriving at the Normandy college, they discovered three distinct sources of fire: in the office of the deputy director of SEGPA (adapted general and vocational education section), in the school life office (education assistants) and the CDI.

Two bars were removed, and a window broken, in order to enter the offices. The scientific police are on site this Saturday morning, in order to take possible fingerprints. The director, Sébastien Parey, will file a complaint this afternoon at the Nouméa police station.

There was only material damage, particularly to the electrical system. An electrician will come on Monday to check the installation, particularly the electrical outlets after the firefighters have visited. The services of the Southern Province will come and assess the other damage to the gate and the building.

The college will not reopen to students on Monday, but staff will return to the establishment to clean and secure the premises, in order to consider resuming on Tuesday in good conditions.
