Cercle de Bruges is currently playing against Hearts of Midlothian. One detail did not go unnoticed at the Jan Breydelstadion.
This year, Bruges has twice as much work as usual in organizing the European Cup. Because in addition to the Club’s traditional continental presence, the Circle also represents the Venice of the north and Belgian football in the Conference League.
Each week, the two teams alternate between home and away matches so that there is only one meeting at the Jan Breydelstadion.
This week, the Blauw en Zwart were at work in Scotland, at Celtic Glasgow. The Circle could thus welcome another Scottish team, the Hearts of Midlothian.
A disguised Champions League match?
These few organizational considerations sometimes give rise to a few hiccups. Like this evening for the Groen en Zwart match: if the signs at the edge of the pitch clearly indicated that it was a Conference League match, the rings located in the middle of the stands suddenly turned towards the Champions League.
Will this push Cercle players to raise their level even further? In any case, the small detail should not have escaped the attention of the UEFA delegate.
