Huawei, in partnership with Chery, is offering a new version of the Luxeed S7, its electric sedan, which benefits from new colors and a more competitive price for the 2025 model year. This update aims to attract buyers likely to turn to the Tesla Model 3, its main competitor.

A difficult start, a strategic relaunch

Initially launched in November 2023, the Luxeed S7 got off to a rocky start, mainly due to supply issues. However, after a reintroduction to the Chinese market in April 2024 with minor adjustments, the 2025 model arrives with the ambition of reviving demand and establishing itself in the very competitive electric car segment.

Measuring 4.97m in length, the S7 was the first model to adopt the group’s HIMA design language, since applied to other Huawei-backed vehicles such as the Stelato S9 sedan, Aito M9 SUV and Luxeed SUV coupe R7.

Some aesthetic touches

If the exterior of the S7 remains unchanged for this 2025 version, a palette of new colors—Phantom Purple, Blue Wave, Metropolitan Red and Sunshine Blue—enriches its offering.

The flagship performance version Luxeed S7 Ultra also borrows some styling cues from the Tesla Model 3 Performance, such as 21-inch black wheels, red Brembo brake calipers and discreet aerodynamic additions.

Interior updates and in-car technology

Inside, the Luxeed S7 retains most of the features of the 2024 model, while benefiting from a few notable upgrades. It has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch touchscreen, both running Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4. The front seats incorporate “zero gravity” technology, while the rear seat offers heating and ventilation.

New features such as two wireless charging stations and a 17-speaker audio system enhance the luxurious appearance of the cabin. In addition, the Huawei ADS 2.0 system provides semi-autonomous driving and remote parking functionalities, thanks to a set of sensors intended to assist the driver.

Motorization and common platform

Based on the E0X architecture, shared with the Luxeed R7 SUV coupe as well as the Exeed Sterra ES and ET SUV models, the Luxeed S7 benefits from a robust and modular base. This platform will also be used for future Freelander electric vehicles, resulting from the joint venture between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery for the Chinese market.

The S7 is offered in two configurations:

  • A rear electric motor developing 288 hp (215 kW).
  • A twin-engine configuration offering a combined power of 489 hp (365 kW).

The batteries, supplied by CATL, are available in two capacities: 82 kWh or 100 kWh. With the latter, the rear-wheel drive version can reach a range of 855 km according to the CLTC cycle.

Aggressive pricing positioning

The big news for 2025 is the price reduction of the Luxeed S7, with drops ranging from ¥10,000 to ¥30,000 (or approximately $1,400 to $4,100), depending on the finishes. These adjustments allow the Luxeed S7 to display a price slightly lower than that of the Tesla Model 3, its direct rival. However, Tesla could quickly respond to this pricing offensive, true to its habits of sudden discounts.

Thus, the Luxeed S7 Pro RWD 82 kWh with 705 km CLTC is priced at $31,700 compared to $32,000 for the Tesla Model 3 Propulsion.

Launched in November 2023, the Luxeed S7 only sold 2,297 units until February 2024 due to logistical problems in the supply chain. From April 2024 and until October, sales took off with 24,224 copies sold but these figures are still far from the much more dazzling debut of the Xiaomi SU7. For the moment Huawei is not communicating on a European arrival, except through its partnerships.
