This Thursday, FIFA updated its ranking of the best nations. After its good performances in the Nations League, Portugal gained a place.
It was announced, it is now official: Portugal has obtained an additional place in the FIFA rankings. A development which follows the recent update carried out by the highest football authority this Thursday, November 28.
Portugal progresses in the ranking
Seventh before the latest update of the FIFA rankings, Portugal is now in sixth position. Indeed, following the good results obtained by the Portuguese during the group stage of the Nations League, they obtained a sufficient increase in points to beat Belgium. Sixth before the update, the Belgian nation now finds itself in eighth position following its last two defeats, and thus sees Portugal, but also the Netherlands, ahead of it.
Now installed in sixth place, the Portuguese nation can even consider returning to the top 5 of this FIFA ranking. Indeed, the Portuguese and their 1756 points are no longer so far from Brazil, fifth with 1776 units. The Portuguese nation could thus experience further progress during the month of March, in the event of good results obtained during the double confrontation against Denmark, in the quarter-finals of the League of Nations. At the same time, Brazil will face two particularly strong opponents on its continent, namely Colombia and Argentina.
