An operation carried out by the European criminal police agency, with the participation of France, made it possible to launch a vast raid against the administrators of an illegal IPTV network.
Europol continues its fight against pirate IPTV. European police forces announced on November 27 that they had arrested 11 people, accused of illegally distributing TV programs without authorization from streaming services. This group, scattered between Italy, Croatia and the United Kingdom, hacked more than 2,500 television channels – including sports channels – to make them accessible to more than 22 million people around the world.
This illegal IPTV operation brought in 250 million euros per month for the group, or 3 billion euros per year. According to Europol, illegal activity of this scale would cause damage of 10 billion euros per year to streaming services.
Cyberattacks: when humans are the weak link
With U-Cyber 360°, the French company Mailinblack allows you to protect your organization and educate your employees in cybersecurity.
From the password manager to email security, continuing training and attack simulations, this solution brings together all the tools to prevent cyber risks.
Europol has accused the network of being involved in money laundering and cybercrime. More than 112 searches were carried out, and 29 servers were seized, allowing authorities to confiscate 270 IPTV devices.
During the searches, police also discovered drugs, weapons and around 1.7 million euros in cryptocurrencies and cash.
DAZN, Amazon prime among the most pirated channels
« In essence, thanks to a sophisticated computer system – that of illegal IPTV – live programs and on-demand content protected by television rights belonging to the most famous platforms, such as Sky, Dazn, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Paramount and Disney+, were illegally captured and resold “, declared the Italian prosecutor’s office.
France took action recently with four judgments handed down against 53 streaming sites and IPTV services. The requests at the origin of these decisions came from Canal+ for three of them, and from DAZN for the fourth. These two major players play a key role in the broadcasting of sports competitions.
DAZN has also reduced its subscription prices to attract viewers, although this probably comes too late to convince a large number of viewers to switch to paying.
