Coupe de France: for Guillaume Beghin, “a good match is not about making every pass… but almost”

Coupe de (8th round). Stade Briochin (N2) – US Saint-Malo (N2), this Friday (7 p.m.)

You are one of the most successful Briochins at the moment. How does this translate on the ground?

It's true that I'm in good shape, I have good legs, good stats too with two goals and three assists between the championship and the Coupe de France. A good match, in my case, is not making all my passes… But almost. Have a good volume of play, be useful to the team through my technical quality.

At the start of a match, I always try to start with simple passes, it's good for confidence. Then come the more difficult passes. I think of the one I achieved against Dinan-Léhon (1-0, November 9). After recovering the ball, I threw with my left foot, above the defense, Aimeric (Gomis) who then made a good sequence.

Do you use that left foot more when the form is there?

I'm lucky to have both feet, so no. It's not a criterion that says whether I'm good or not.

When you're good, it's because you feel good in your head too, right?

Yes, I am the father of a little Gabriel, he turned nine months on November 24. It's pure happiness. When I see him playing with my partner, Célia, I find it hard to realize, I am happy. Afterwards, I don't know if I should talk about it… But it's harder to see that my mother is seriously ill. But that gives me a second reason to give everything on the pitch. I want her to be proud of me!

Have you ever experienced the state of flow, those moments when everything goes well for you?

I have already had other good periods but not to the point where all my shots turned into goals. I would love for that to happen but in football, there is always a goalkeeper or defender to stop you (smile).

The secret is to walk with pleasure?

I play football to get some! Here, I'm with a good group of friends, we're like brothers. Besides, I'm not the only one to have mounted the slider, the whole team did it. The defeat against Granville (2-3, September 21), when we were leading 2-0 and they had not yet won a match, allowed a collective awareness. Since then, we haven't conceded a single goal. I hope that with the whole team, we will continue this good form.
