Xiaomi took advantage of the announcement of the Redmi K80 and its Pro version to launch the Redmi Watch 5: its low-cost connected watch
An XXL and brighter Amoled touch screen
Logical successor to the Redmi Watch 4, the connected watch retains its square format, but enlarges its Amoled screen. The panel then goes from 1.97 inches to 2.07 inches. The Redmi Watch 5 then outperforms the XXL connected watches in our comparison, such as the Huawei Watch Fit 3 and the Apple Watch Ultra.

The Xiaomi screen gains in brightness since it now reaches 1500 c/m2. Its definition is also improved: it displays 432 x 514 pixels, which is better than the 320 x 360 pixels of the Garmin Venu SQ 2. As for its resolution, it is 324 ppi.
On the side of this screen there is a rotating crown. The main control of the connected watch, it allows you to navigate between the different menus, like the one installed on Apple Watches. In addition to this physical control, all interactions are necessarily done via the touch screen.
A well-equipped Xiaomi connected watch
To compete with market benchmarks, the Redmi Watch 5 is equipped with several sensors welcome for athletes. The connected watch has a heart rate monitor, essential for assessing the user’s heart rate, whether active or not. According to Xiaomi, this heart rate sensor is 97.1% accurate; what we will see during our tests. Blood oxygen and stress levels are also delivered by the watch, as is a sleep analysis.
And to be relevant in the sports watch sector, the Watch 5 has integrated GPS. Thanks to it, the user is able to follow their outdoor route and their pace in real time. This is a tool to be welcomed for a watch in this range, since some much more expensive others do not have it.
Finally, the autonomy of the Redmi is not to be outdone since the Chinese manufacturer announces 24 days of use, reduced to 12 in always-on mode (when the screen is constantly on). This is a very good performance, especially when we know that some high-end watches, like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7, last less than two days.
Currently only available in China, the Redmi Watch 5 should arrive on the French market in the coming months. And according to its selling price in yen – 599 CNY – the connected watch should be sold for less than €100, to which €30 to €40 should be added for the eSIM compatible version.
