A few hours after the truce came into effect, thousands of displaced people set out on their way home. The year of hostilities and the two months of Israeli offensive have pushed around 900,000 people to flee their homes, according to the Lebanese government.
After two months of open war which left more than 3,800 dead, according to the authorities, a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into force on Wednesday November 27 in Lebanon. Forming major traffic jams from dawn around the capital Beirut, thousands of displaced residents took to the road in overloaded cars and minibuses to return to their towns and villages, which were sometimes destroyed. The Israeli army nevertheless called on civilians not to approach its border positions.
