A major fire broke out on the night of Wednesday November 27 to Thursday November 28, 2024, at the Marché Gare in Nîmes. Gard firefighters intervened at 11:49 p.m. for a fire affecting six empty refrigerated trucks parked on the site.
Despite the scale of the flames, the rapid intervention of 20 firefighters and five intervention vehicles made it possible to control the fire while preventing it from spreading to surrounding buildings. The incident also impacted three light vehicles and a heavy goods vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
This fire is a hard blow to the Banque Alimentaire du Gard.
“Our refrigerated vehicle fleet was completely destroyed by a fire that is believed to be malicious. Our six vehicles are completely charred, a loss estimated at around €480,000. At 8:00 a.m., I will file a complaint at the central police station and make a declaration to of our insurance.” Joseph Pronesti, President of the Gard Food Bank
This fire comes two years after a previous incident on the same site. At the time, the six vehicles had been vandalized: windows broken and interiors searched.
Despite this dramatic situation, the president is mobilizing to find solutions: “I will look for a solution to continue collecting and serve our partner associations.” Joseph Pronesti
